Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Grand Rapids?

Private property trees generally don't require a permit, but street trees in the right-of-way do, and some neighborhoods have their own rules. We handle the check as part of the estimate.

Will insurance cover my tree removal?

If a tree fell on a structure during a storm, homeowners insurance usually covers removing it from the structure. Preventive removal of a standing tree typically isn't covered. We help document storm damage for your claim.

Do you take the stump too, and how deep do you grind?

Standard removal leaves a low stump. Stump grinding is a popular add-on — we grind 6 to 12 inches below grade, enough for lawn, and backfill with chips. We'll go deeper on request.

Can I keep the wood?

Yes. We'll buck the trunk to firewood length and stack it wherever you want at no extra charge, or haul it away if you'd rather not deal with it.

Late winter, roughly February through March, for most species. Oaks should only be pruned in dormancy to avoid oak wilt.
