Jason Lewis started Diversified Tree Company LLC because too many homeowners were being sold a removal when the tree could be saved, or handed a quote by a salesman who never touched a rope. Jason climbs. He rigs. He runs the ropes on the oaks hanging over your roofline himself, and he's the one who walks the yard with you before anything gets cut. Ten-plus years later, the company is still owner-operated, still family-focused, still Black-owned, and still working out of the same yard on Paris Avenue SE in south Grand Rapids.
Behind him is a crew with — men who have taken down century maples in tight backyards and cleared storm-torn trees off houses at two in the morning. That experience is the whole reason we can do the jobs that make people nervous: big removals next to structures, rigging over fences and power drops, controlled lowering piece by piece instead of dropping and hoping.
We work residential and commercial across Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Grandville, Byron Center, Caledonia, Moline, Jenison, Hudsonville, Dorr, Ada, Wayland, Alto, Marne and Comstock Park. From the Paris Ave SE yard, most of the metro is about 20 minutes away in normal conditions.

Storms in West Michigan don't wait for business hours, so neither do we. The phone is answered at 3 a.m. It's answered on Christmas. That's not a premium line or an answering service that takes a message and calls you back Tuesday — storm response is a core part of what this company does, and we document damage for your insurance claim while we're on site. We're open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours.
Here's what else the crew does differently, and you can hold us to all of it:
- We won't top your tree. Topping creates weakly attached regrowth that fails in the next storm and shortens the tree's life. If someone quotes you a topping job, keep shopping.
- We'd rather brace it than bin it. Cabling and bracing keeps split-prone, valuable trees standing. No honest arborist guarantees a tree, but support dramatically reduces the risk of union failure.
- You keep the wood if you want it. We'll buck the trunk to firewood length and stack it where you point, at no extra charge — or haul it off.
- Stumps go 6 to 12 inches below grade as standard, deep enough to put lawn back over. Deeper on request, chips backfilled or hauled.
- We check the permit question for you as part of the estimate, including right-of-way street trees and neighborhood rules.
