Diversified Tree Company LLC is an owner-operated, family-focused, Black-owned arborist team working out of a yard on Paris Avenue in south Grand Rapids. Jason Lewis has been running crews here for more than a decade, and the work he built the business on is the work most companies quietly pass on: storm-torn oaks hanging over a roofline, century maples with a split union, removals tight enough that every limb has to be rigged down instead of dropped.

That is not a slogan. The phone is open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours, and it gets answered at 3 a.m. on Christmas if that is when the limb comes through your porch roof. Storm response is a core service here, not an upsell tacked onto a quote. From the Paris Ave SE yard, most of the metro is within 20 minutes in normal driving conditions, and if you call outside of an emergency you'll hear back within one business day.

- Bracing & Cabling — structural support that preserves split-prone trees instead of removing them.

Glad I waited for the right professional. Jason was very careful in his approach with my fallen after the storm. If not for him I would have definitely damaged my roof. Very happy.
That is the pattern in the reviews: careful approach, nothing damaged, work finished. We also won't top a tree, no matter who asks. Topping creates weakly attached regrowth that fails in the next storm and shortens the tree's life, so we prune properly or we recommend removal.
Permits, insurance and what happens to the stump
Trees on private property in Grand Rapids generally don't require a permit, but street trees in the right-of-way do, and some neighborhoods set their own rules. We check that for you as part of the estimate instead of leaving it on your to-do list.
On insurance: if a tree fell on a structure during a storm, homeowners insurance usually covers removing it from the structure, and we document the job for the claim. Preventive removal of a standing tree typically isn't covered. On the stump: a standard removal leaves a low stump, and grinding is the popular add-on — we take it 6 to 12 inches below gradedeeper on request, and backfill with the chips so you can put lawn back over it. And the wood is yours if you want it. We'll buck the trunk to firewood length and stack it wherever you point at no extra charge, or haul it off.
